Experienced geological guidance, comprehensive data analysis, and practical recommendations to help operators plan better wells, reduce uncertainty, and improve drilling performance.
Every successful drilling project begins with informed geological decisions. From early well planning to real-time operational support, dependable geological interpretation helps operators understand subsurface conditions, reduce uncertainty, and avoid costly mistakes.
Selman Geo Services provides professional Geological Consulting Services for oil and gas operators that need experienced guidance throughout the life of a well. Our seasoned geologists work closely with engineering, drilling, and management teams to transform complex geological information into clear, practical recommendations.
Whether you are planning a new well, evaluating formation potential, reviewing offset data, or optimizing an active drilling operation, our consulting services help keep your project informed, efficient, and on track.
Geological consulting is the interpretation, evaluation, and application of geological data to support exploration, drilling, and development decisions. A geological consultant helps operators understand formation characteristics, structural conditions, reservoir potential, and drilling risks before and during well construction.
Our Oilfield Geological Services may support initial well planning, offset well analysis, formation correlation, real-time drilling evaluation, and post-well review. The scope is customized around the operator’s objectives, regional geology, available data, and technical requirements.
Well planning requires more than selecting a surface location and target depth. Operators must consider structural position, formation thickness, expected lithology, reservoir quality, offset well performance, and potential drilling hazards.
Based on customer requirements, our geological consultants can evaluate available information before drilling begins. If needed, we can provide:
Our consulting team connects geological observations with the operational decisions they influence. Instead of delivering disconnected data, we explain what changing conditions may mean for the well plan, target interval, drilling performance, and project risk.
This focused interpretation gives drilling engineers, geologists, field personnel, and management a consistent understanding of current well conditions.
Accurate Formation Evaluation Services are essential for understanding the intervals encountered during drilling. Our geologists review available logs, cuttings descriptions, gas data, drilling trends, and regional information to help determine formation boundaries, lithology changes, and hydrocarbon potential.
This interpretation helps operators better understand formation thickness, lithology, reservoir quality, hydrocarbon indicators, structural position, target continuity, and possible productive zones.
By integrating multiple data sources, we provide a more complete picture of the subsurface than any single data stream can offer on its own.
Conditions encountered while drilling do not always match the original geological model. Formation tops may appear higher or lower than expected, lithology may change, and structural complexity may require adjustments to the drilling strategy. Our Wellsite Geological Consulting gives operators access to experienced geological support while decisions are still being made.
Modern drilling operations generate large amounts of information, but data alone does not improve a project. The value comes from understanding which changes are important and how they affect the drilling objective.
Selman Geo Services helps operators interpret Real-Time Drilling Data from mud logging systems, gas monitoring equipment, directional surveys, gamma ray logs, rate-of-penetration trends, and other wellsite measurements.
Through continuous Drilling Data Monitoring, our geologists identify patterns, anomalies, and formation changes that may require attention. This gives project teams focused geological insight instead of disconnected data points.
Geological uncertainty is one of the most significant risks in exploration and drilling. Incorrect assumptions about formations, pressure conditions, structure, or reservoir position can lead to missed targets, drilling delays, unnecessary directional corrections, and increased non-productive time.
Professional geological consulting provides an independent technical review and an additional level of interpretation. Our team helps identify unexpected formation changes, correlation inconsistencies, structural uncertainty, potential drilling hazards, data gaps, unusual gas responses, and target-positioning concerns.
Recognizing these issues early gives the drilling team more time to evaluate options and choose the appropriate response.
No two wells are exactly alike. Geological conditions, available data, project objectives, drilling methods, and reporting requirements vary from one operation to another. Selman Geo Services does not rely on a one-size-fits-all consulting model.
At the conclusion of the well, Selman Geo Services provides a Geological Report that brings together the project’s key findings and interpretations. The report contains:
Selman Geo Services combines experienced geological professionals with practical drilling knowledge and advanced analytical capabilities. Our consultants understand that operators need more than technical terminology. They need accurate interpretation, clear communication, and recommendations that can be applied to real operational decisions.
Our role is to strengthen your team with the geological insight needed to make better decisions throughout the project. From planning through completion, we help reduce operational uncertainty and keep the geological picture connected to your drilling objectives.
Services may include well planning, offset well analysis, formation evaluation, structural interpretation, real-time drilling support, geological reporting, and post-well analysis.
A consultant can add value during pre-drill planning, active drilling, formation evaluation, geosteering, data review, or whenever geological uncertainty may affect project performance.
Better interpretation helps operators avoid missed targets, unnecessary corrections, delayed decisions, and preventable non-productive time.

Posted on Google heather grigsby Posted on Google Kristie Ferguson We recently used Selman Mudlogging on two wells in the Texas Panhandle, and they absolutely exceeded expectations. Their team was consistently on time, professional, and extremely reliable. With their Starlink setup, communication was seamless—no downtime, no delays, and always reachable when needed. Their daily reports were clear, timely, and dependable. Our mudlogger was highly knowledgeable and did an excellent job analyzing samples and identifying shows in new zones, which added real value to the project. The accuracy and attention to detail were outstanding. Selman’s online portal and mobile app make accessing sample analysis, uploads, and reports incredibly convenient. Everything is organized, easy to navigate, and available in real time. Overall, they were very easy to work with, extremely competent, and clearly dedicated to delivering a top-tier service. We’ll definitely be using Selman Mudlogging on future jobs. Highly recommended.Posted on Google Ross Evans I’d like to take a minute and provide a review of this awesome company a Permian/North Texas operator’s view point due to how happy we’ve been with working with this company. This company deserved a detailed review post! I personally have to say, that this has been my favorite logging company that has logged for us at Joint Resources and that I’ve worked with to date. I’ve been managing the mud logging operations for over 12 years at my company and have worked with numerous companies in the Permian and North Texas regions, and this company has been on point all across the board from, all the way from customer support to operations in the field as well as giving the best performing gas detection system and post well logs I have worked with. They have the most competitive pricing on the market and offer a simple pricing structure. Tom Selman does not believe in charging operators a million different fees like most other logging companies do (logger travel mileage, fees for printing post well logs, daily logger per diem/lodging fees, etc) and the base logging package is very fairly priced and beats any other operator’s pricing that we’ve used. They offer premium gas detection services as well as a first of it's kind service that I personally have never come across before. Two different things that Selman offers that I have not found another logging outfit to offer: (1) A photo log that includes BOTH high quality images of the samples AND images of the florescence shows for each of the samples recorded! This was an extremely valuable log to have post well when planning the completions! I can't even begin to tell you how cool it was to have images of the fluorescence and shows after the well, normally this is only recorded as descriptions from the Mud Logger's and having the images completely takes out the human error component/chance loggers may miss recording a good show. (2) A patented gas detection manifold that Selman offers to be welded in place at the flow line that reads the gas before it gets circulated through the possum belly. Selman included this service for free and provided the manifold set up/bull plugs and coordinated with the welder in person before the well. We tested this set up alongside the normal gas agitator set up and found it to read much higher gas readings than the agitator post-circulation readings! We’ll most definitely be using this set up on all of our future wells. This company also is equipped with Starlink services and live stream every sample live through the drilling process to its own in-house app which was really nice for the team and management to view both in the field and remotely back at the office. You get to see actual images live streamed into the app plus the mud log and gas readings which is huge. It keeps everybody in the loop. An added bonus was being able to speak firsthand with the owner Tom Selman at any time he is an extremely talented and motivated owner of this company and has instilled great standards and how his company has ran in his team goes by. Tom’s leadership at this company has really brought this team to a high standard of logging and we really appreciate that when we use them.
